For some, "Summer reading list" recalls high school nightmares of last-minute cramming and sweaty test taking. But for avid readers, it's simply a way to share books that've captured their attentions recently. One such avid reader: Former President Barack Obama, who shared his summer reading list to Instagram Wednesday. The former president led his list with the [collected works of author Toni Morrison](https://www.amazon.com/Toni-Morrison/e/B000APT7NQ/), who became the first African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature in 1993. Obama awarded Morrison the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian honor, in 2012. She died from complications from pneumonia on Aug. 5. In his post, Obama wrote of Morrison's novels, "Beloved, Song of Solomon, The Bluest Eye, Sula, everything else — they're transcendent, all of them. You'll be glad you read them."
